RAAS System
1129
- Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System (RAAS)
- Main purpose is to regulate blood pressure by modulating the kidney's reabsorption of water and salt
- Occurs through a network of sensors and effector hormones (angiotensin II, aldosterone, and antidiuretic hormone)
- The enzyme renin cleaves precursor hormone angiotensinogen to form angiotensin I
- Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) then cleaves angiotensin I to form angiotensin II
- Angiotensin II induces release of hormones aldosterone and ADH
- Main purpose is to regulate blood pressure by modulating the kidney's reabsorption of water and salt
