The 4 year developmental milestones refer to a set of abilities that most children can perform by 4 years of age. In terms of motor abilities, 4 year olds can hop on one foot and copy squares with pen and paper. Socially, 4 year olds can tell complex stories in complete sentences, using speech that is completely intelligible. 4 year olds also engage in cooperative play, where they work with their friends towards a common goal. 4 year old children may also have imaginary friends. Finally, from a cognitive development perspective, 4 year olds should be able to recognize a few colors and numbers.
