      • Type of flat cestode (tapeworm) parasite
    • Transmission and Presentation
      • Ingestion of larvae in undercooked pork (cysts in muscle tissue)
        • Causes intestinal tapeworm
          • May have nausea, anorexia, or epigastric pain (MB)
          • Peripheral eosinophilia may be seen (MB)
      • Ingestion of eggs in food (contaminated with human feces) 
        • Causes cysticercosis
          • Neurocysticercosis 
            • Cystic CNS lesions (small ring-enhancing lesions)
            • Seizures, headache, altered mental status
          • Cystic lesions involving muscles or subcutaneous tissues
    • Diagnosis
      • Stool Microscopy (O&P)
        • Proglottids (tapeworm sections) and eggs in stool
      • Brain imaging for neurocysticercosis
    • Treatment
      • Praziquantel
      • Add albendazole for neurocysticercosis
