    • Virulence factors
      • Mediated by 2 enterotoxins
        • Heat-labile (LT)
          • Increases intracellular cAMP in gut mucosa cells by activating Gs/adenylate cyclase
          • Very similar to cholera toxin
        • Heat-stabile (ST)
          • Increases cGMP by activating guanylate cyclase
        • Both cause increased secretion of fluid/ions to cause diarrhea
    • Transmission
      • Occurs in travelers to developing countries (traveler’s diarrhea)
    • Presentation
      • Watery Diarrhea
      • Abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting
